There are those who go after their dreams no matter what, and then there are those who write an album about it when those dreams come true. Well, Sleeping With Sirens are here to say they told us so in their May 9th release of Let’s Cheers To This. Here is a band that has accomplished exactly what they set out to do and with this album to remind us that anything is possible. According to them, not everyone supported the idea of Sleeping With Sirens becoming a success. These guys have kept their beliefs intact and their passions strong through all the doubt or negativity that has been thrown at them to make a very inspiring point. Songs like “Do It Now Remember It Later” and “Tally It Up, Settle The Score” are calling out the haters in a big way by being harder, larger and more intense than any of the bands tracks to date. More than anything this album is a reflective look at this bands struggle thus far and makes a clear statement about following through with their ambitions. It may look as if Sleeping With Sirens are using this moment to brag a little, but with albums like With Ears To See, And Eyes To Hear and now Let’s Cheers To This under their belts they deserve it.

Is it possible to love someone so much that it can become a curse? Sparks The Rescue of Portland, Maine gives us the answer in their monumental sophomore album The Worst Thing I’ve been Cursed With (May 10th, 2011). While admitting they let their hearts get the better of them to flash that vulnerable side, this five piece modern rock group proves that what doesn’t kill them just makes these guys rock that much stronger. The album includes twelve unforgettably clever songs with an additional bonus track that is so surprisingly funny it seems Sparks The Rescue could fit in comfortably at any comedy club. This band’s ability to create impossibly catchy choruses and head banging yet danceable melodies is unbelievable but certainly not an accident. The evolution of Sparks The Rescue has been headed toward this perfect blend of pop, punk, and rock sounds for over half a decade and they show no signs of letting up. Now, I must mention that this album can be described as a sequel, due to obvious references to the bands 2008 debut Eyes to the Sun. There is a clear theme being carried over from album to album as the lyrics illustrate a dialogue of romantic beginnings in a relationship all the way to the desperate end. Although I find The Worst Thing I’ve been Cursed With to be evenly distributed with great songs there are still some standouts including “She’s A Bitch, And I’m A Fool” and “The Weirdest Way”, both songs have incredible feeling and just beg to be sung along to. It is undeniable Sparks The Rescue is the band to look out for this year and they might sneak up on us all if we’re not paying close attention.

It is that time of year again where everyone is making plans for the Summer. Memorial Day weekend being the first domino to push over a chain of hot days at the beach, camping with friends and family, trips to the nearest water park and crazy alcohol induced house parties. As I sit at home waiting for the weather to catch up with my dreams of sun bathing and weekend barbeques I cant help but notice one band in particular who has gotten an early start this year. With their May 24th release of Masters Of The Universe the punk rock band Lets Get It of Dayton, Ohio are a force that can not be stopped this season. Lets Get It has the energy and confidence this Summer to say they will not only tell you how to party but that they are the party. Massive tracks like “We Don’t Care” and “Keep It Up” are just two energized anthems that will have you dancing out of your clothes during these hot days ahead. Masters Of The Universe is an extensive album that will keep you going through the night and Lets Get It has succeeded in capturing the fun and excitement we wait for all year long. Do yourself a favor and give your ears the vacation they deserve by allowing Lets Get It to show you just how fun the Summer can be.
